Transparency International released the 10th edition of the Global Corruption Barometer – Africa on Africa Anti-Corruption Day.
It found that “corruption is hindering Africa’s economic, political and social development… (and) that it is a major barrier to economic growth, good governance and basic freedoms, such as freedom of speech or citizens’ right to hold governments to account”.
The report also found that 55% of all respondents think that corruption has increased over the last year and 59% think that their government is not doing enough to address corruption.
As usual, the GCBA provides a good indication of the extent of this problem and would be able to assist civil society, business and governments across the continent in identifying perception problems. Moreover, it clearly illustrates that something drastic and urgent need to be done about corruption across Africa!
